Frequently Asked Questions
Why Oldenburg vs Maslach?
Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is proprietary — paid licensing. Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI, Demerouti et al. 2003) is freely available, equally validated, measures both exhaustion + disengagement.
Is burnout a clinical diagnosis?
WHO ICD-11 lists burnout as "occupational phenomenon" (not disease). Doctors increasingly recognize burnout-related conditions. Severe burnout = often combined depression/anxiety needing clinical care.
Can I recover from burnout?
Yes — but takes time. Mild: 2-4 weeks rest + role change. Moderate: 2-3 months sabbatical/medical leave. Severe: 6-12 months therapy + medical support. Don't push through.
