Frequently Asked Questions
Why does installation method matter?
Heat dissipation differs: cable in air = best, in conduit = worse, buried in ground = depends on soil. Same cable carries different current safely. Method "A1" (insulated wires in conduit in wall) is most common.
Voltage drop limits?
IEC: 3% lighting, 5% other. National variations. Long runs > 50m especially watch — undersized cable may meet ampacity but fail voltage drop.
Why temperature derating?
Cables rated at 30°C ambient. Above: less current safe. 40°C ambient = derate ~7%, 50°C = ~17%, 60°C = ~30%. Industrial settings often need derating.
