CNC Feed & Speed Optimizer
Calculate spindle RPM and feed rate (IPM) from surface feet per minute, tool geometry, chip load. Plus material removal rate for cycle-time estimates.
How to use this tool
- 1
Material + tool diameter
Determines surface speed (SFM).
- 2
Flute count + chip load
Per-tooth feed rate.
- 3
See RPM + IPM + MRR
Spindle speed + feed rate + material removal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is SFM?
Surface Feet per Minute — relative surface speed at tool periphery. Material- and tool-dependent. Aluminum 6061: 1500-3000. Mild steel: 100-250. Stainless: 80-150.
Chip load values?
Per-tooth chip thickness in inches or mm. Aluminum: 0.005-0.012". Steel: 0.002-0.008". Plastics: 0.003-0.010". Smaller chip = better finish, more wear; larger = faster cut, vibration risk.
MRR — Material Removal Rate?
Volume of material removed per minute. MRR = WoC × DoC × IPM. High MRR = fast cycle but tool wear increases. Roughing: max MRR. Finishing: low.
