Free Online Digital Signature Maker — Draw, Type, or Upload
The Digital Signature tool lets you create a professional-looking signature image in seconds. Draw freehand with your mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen. Type your name and choose from five handwriting-style fonts. Or upload an existing signature image. Download the result as a transparent PNG that can be inserted into PDFs, Word documents, emails, and forms. Everything runs locally in your browser — your signature data is never uploaded or stored.
Three Ways to Create Your Signature
The Draw mode offers the most authentic result. Using the HTML Canvas API with quadratic Bezier curves for smooth lines, it captures the natural flow of your handwriting. Adjustable pen width (1-5 pixels) and color selection let you match the look of a real pen. An undo feature removes the last stroke if you make a mistake.
The Type mode is the fastest option. Enter your name, select a signature-style font, and the tool renders it on the canvas instantly. Five font options cover different signature aesthetics — from flowing cursive to casual handwriting. This mode produces consistent, repeatable results ideal for standardized documents.
The Upload mode accepts existing signature images (PNG, JPG, SVG). If you already have a signature on paper, take a photo or scan it, then upload it here. The image is rendered on the canvas where it can be downloaded as a clean PNG.
Transparent vs. White Background
By default, signatures are saved with a transparent background. Transparent PNGs blend seamlessly into any document regardless of its background color. When inserted into a PDF or Word file, only the signature strokes are visible — there is no white rectangle surrounding the signature. The white background option is available for cases where transparency is not needed or when the file will be used on white paper anyway.
Use Cases for Digital Signatures
- Signing PDFs: Insert the PNG into any PDF editor (Adobe Acrobat, Foxit, Preview) as a stamp or image layer. Most PDF tools support transparent PNG overlay.
- Word documents and Google Docs: Insert the signature image at the end of letters, contracts, or memos. Use "In front of text" wrapping for precise placement.
- Email signatures: Add the PNG to your email client's signature settings for a handwritten touch on every email.
- Online forms: Some web forms accept uploaded signature images. A transparent PNG at the right dimensions will fill the field cleanly.
- Design and branding: Artists, authors, and professionals use signature images as personal branding elements on websites, social media, and promotional materials.
Privacy and Security
This tool processes everything client-side using the HTML Canvas API. No data leaves your browser. No cookies are set. No signature data is logged, stored, or transmitted. When you close the page, the canvas data is destroyed. This makes it safe to create signatures for personal and business documents without privacy concerns. For added security, use the tool in a private/incognito browser window.
Legal Considerations
An image-based signature is considered a "simple electronic signature" under most legal frameworks. The U.S. ESIGN Act (2000), EU eIDAS Regulation, and similar laws in many countries recognize electronic signatures as legally valid when applied with the intent to sign. However, certain document types (real estate transfers, court filings, notarized documents) may require advanced or qualified digital signatures with cryptographic authentication. Consult a legal professional for high-stakes documents.
Tips for a Good Digital Signature
In draw mode, sign at a natural speed — drawing too slowly creates jagged lines. Use a pen width of 2-3 pixels for the most realistic look. If using a mouse, practice a few times and use undo to remove bad attempts. On touch devices, use your finger or a stylus. For type mode, your signature does not need to include your full legal name — initials or a shortened version is common and can look more authentic.
