EV Charging Time — Realistic (10 to 80% with charge curve)
Real charging time accounting for charge curve taper, battery temperature, age, charger throttling. Beyond "150 kW peak" marketing — actual time at the station.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't peak kW the actual rate?
EV chargers slow as battery fills (taper at 60-80% SoC). A "150 kW" car may average 100 kW in a session. Charging 10→80% takes 30-50% longer than (kWh × 0.7) / peak kW would suggest.
Pre-conditioning matters?
Yes — Tesla, Porsche, BMW pre-warm battery. Without: cold battery = 50-70% slower charging. Always pre-condition before fast-charge in winter.
Why 10→80% standard?
Above 80%, charging slows dramatically (battery protection). Road-trip optimum: 10-80% then move on. Charging 80→100% can take as long as 10→80% — usually not worth it.
