Frequently Asked Questions
EU 261 — when does it apply?
Any flight DEPARTING EU/Iceland/Norway/Switzerland (any airline) OR ARRIVING EU on EU airline. Cancellation, denied boarding, delays >3hr. €250-600 depending on distance.
US DOT compensation?
Limited vs EU. Only involuntary bumping triggers cash compensation: $775-$1,550. Delays/cancellations: airline credit only (not legally required to compensate). DOT 2024 rule expanded.
Extraordinary circumstances?
No compensation if: weather, ATC strikes, security threats. Airline bears burden of proof. "Crew issue" or "aircraft technical" usually does NOT qualify as extraordinary — claim worth filing.
