Frequently Asked Questions
Can I "pay back" sleep debt?
Partially. Research (Walker, Why We Sleep): chronic 6h/night for 10 days = same impairment as 24h awake. Recovery sleep helps but not 1:1. Lost cognitive performance is permanent in part.
Do weekends help?
Some. "Social jet lag" (sleeping 9-10h Sat/Sun) recovers ~30% of weekly debt. But disrupts circadian — Monday is worst day for crash. Better: consistent schedule.
Individual sleep need?
Genetic + age + lifestyle. Most adults: 7-9h. ~5% are short sleepers (DEC2 gene mutation). Best test: 2 weeks vacation, sleep until natural wake — that's your real need.
