Free ChatGPT export viewer — browse, search, export

Toololis ChatGPT Export Viewer lets you read and search your ChatGPT conversation history in a clean, searchable interface. Upload your conversations.json from OpenAI — nothing is sent to our servers. Everything parses in your browser.

How to use this tool

    Export from ChatGPT/Claude

    ChatGPT: Settings → Data Controls → Export. Wait for email, download conversations.json. Claude: Settings → Data → Export.

    Upload the JSON

    Drop the conversations.json file into the dropzone. Never uploaded to our server — parsing happens in your browser.

    Browse & search

    Sidebar lists all conversations. Click any to read. Search bar filters by keyword.

Why this is useful

  • Find past conversations — ChatGPT\'s in-app search is weak. This tool searches every message.
  • Archive before deletion — OpenAI deletes old conversations after 30 days on some plans
  • Export to Markdown — save prompts that worked well for reuse
  • Stats & insights — see how much you use ChatGPT, patterns, most-common topics
  • GDPR rights — exercise data portability, keep local copies

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get the export file?
ChatGPT: Profile (top-left) → Settings → Data Controls → Export data → Confirm. You'll get an email with a zip. Extract it — conversations.json is inside. Claude: Settings → Privacy → Export Data.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The JSON is parsed in your browser only. Never sent anywhere. Close the tab and it's gone — no trace.
What formats are supported?
Currently: OpenAI ChatGPT conversations.json format (2023-2026). Claude support coming soon (their JSON structure is slightly different).
Can I export individual conversations?
Yes. Click the download icon on any conversation to save as Markdown or plain text.
How do I search across all conversations?
Use the search bar at the top. Searches in both user messages and AI responses. Shows matching conversations in sidebar with match count.
What about large exports (1000+ conversations)?
Works fine for most browsers up to ~10K conversations. Above that, browser memory can struggle. Split the JSON if needed.
