Glucose Spike Predictor per Food

Estimate post-meal glucose spike from carbs, GI, protein, fat, fiber, and post-meal activity. Heuristic CGM-era food-planning tool. Results vary individually by 2-3×.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Pick food / meal

GI value or carb / protein / fat / fiber.

  2. 2

    Set baseline glucose

    Fasting ~80-90 mg/dL typical.

  3. 3

    See spike estimate

    Peak + duration + recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GI vs GL?
GI (Glycemic Index) measures speed of glucose rise per food. GL (Glycemic Load) = GI × carb amount. Watermelon high GI but low GL (low carbs). Bread = both high.
Why does protein matter?
Protein + fat slow gastric emptying. 30g protein with carbs = 30-50% lower glucose spike. Fiber: same effect. Same carbs, different food = different spike.
Should non-diabetics care?
Yes. Frequent large spikes (>40 mg/dL) over years correlate with insulin resistance, even in non-diabetics. CGM-era research (Levels, Lingo) reveals individual food responses vary 2-3×.
