Frequently Asked Questions
What is FFT?
Fast Fourier Transform — converts audio waveform into its constituent frequencies. Y-axis = amplitude, X-axis = frequency in Hz.
Why is the high end always weak?
Most cheap mics roll off above 8-10 kHz. USB headset mics common: 100Hz-8kHz response. Studio mics (SM7B, Røde NT1): flat to 20 kHz.
Can I diagnose mic problems?
Yes — speak vowels: clear peak around 200-300 Hz (fundamental). Sibilance ("s") should peak 5-8 kHz. If absent, mic has high-cut. Hiss without input = noise floor.
